Burwood Tap
“Operated as a speakeasy in the last year of prohibition, 1933, and was one of the first 20 bars in Chicago to obtain a liquor license after it was repealed.” The Burwood Tap is a brief stroll from the hostel and is always our first stop on our renowned pub crawls.

Want a taste of Germany? Mayfest delivers heaping servings of brats and beer and live music, it kicks off June 2nd in beautiful Lincoln Square for FREE. However, Lakeview’s Mayfest kicks off May 21st and offers food vendors, a pet parade, as well as some local live bands for $10 admission.
**Any of you wine connoisseurs? Chicago’s first annual WINE RIOT is also beginning May 21st and features 250 wines from around the world for your sampling pleasure, and also will boast DJs, food pairings and a photo booth.

Small Bar
Small Bar, you’ll remember it for the antique decor, as it’s filled with old clocks & tables made from the buildings floorboards. Two other bonuses, this place has a HUGE BEERLIST as well as an EXCELLENT MENU. Have a cheeseburger, trust us and head to 1415 W. Fullerton Ave.
Historic Gangster Sites in Chicago
Chicago has a rich history of gangsters. Here at the Chicago Getaway Hostel, we know this and can recommend some really cool historic sites & tours….
TNK Festival 2011 Chicago
Here at the hostel we’re psyched about the TNK Festival coming to Chicago January 12-16th at Lincoln Hall, Metro, and Schubas. A 5 day pass is $100 and includes an opening night reception, free cocktails, trolley travel between the venues, and a chance to meet some Chicago rock critics. Otherwise, the shows are $15 a piece.

Lakeview, home of The Chicago Cubs, about a dozen vintage clothing shops, record stores, restaurants, an independent film theater, a myriad of bars, and the list goes on and on. This neighborhood is within walking distance to the hostel (just make a left on Clark St.). We recommend exploring this one.
