08 Jan

Lace up your dancing shoes & hit up some of the best Chicago clubs our city has to offer…

Smart Bar.

Renovated and made nightlife worthy sleek in 2006, Wrigleyville’s Smart Bar is always a trendy dance-infused option.  Jukefest, House, Electronic?  You name the genre and chances are it floods out the club’s speakers.  Smart Bar also gets a reputation for being a haven for great local underground djs.  Also, factor in a lazer floor and smoke machine adding to the basement club vibe, this place represents Chicago House Music very well. 3730 N. Clark St.  Average cover: $10.

Also in Lakeview, conveniently located off the Belmont brown or red lines, Berlin draws the masses and spins the jams until 4am.  This review pretty much sums it up: “This freak-friendly dance destination in Lakeview built its reputation back in the mid-’80s with a mix of German new-wave music, art installations and transvestite shows. These days, it’s still quirky but more retro, with Madonna-tribute, disco and ’80s nostalgia nights…“  Good music & gay friendly at 954 W Belmont Ave.  Average cover: $7.

The Mid.

Opened by a production company that runs Congess Theater, The Mid specializes in hip hop dj sets as well as well, almost any other music as well…popular guests included James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Questlove of the Roots, and Big Boi.  Check this versatile venue out for two stories that consist of everything form live indie music to underground dj sets.  306 N. Halsted St.  Average cover: $12.

SpyBar is a popular Chicago dance spot.  Located in the River North gallery district, this club has had the underground techno sound on lock for years.  The dancefloor is spacious and minimal with an emphasis on music not theatrics, their sound system is also top-knotch. 646 N Franklin St.  Average cover: $10.

Neo Chicago

Our neighborhood club Neo excels in alternative music, techno, and 80s club hits.  This place is a rare establishment that cuts out some of the superficialness of other nightlife spots, and focuses on inexpensive drinks, good music, and a comfortable setting.  Check it out at 2350 N Clark St. Average cover: $7.
