Live Music in Chicago 101
Welcome to a perfect city for LIVE MUSIC, whether you’re in the market for a small & intimate venue OR a sprawling outdoor fest, you’ve touched down on the right place…
Our staff enthusiastically recommends The Empty Bottle, a smaller comfy venue that offers superb sound quality, great bands, cheap drinks, & friendly/efficient service; this place is often left out of the tourists’ agenda, and we’re giving you a heads up. Oh and they have FREE MUSIC MONDAYS (check their site). Take a trip just south of Division St. on Western Ave.
Don’t sleep on Lincoln Hall. There’s always great bands coming through & they’re right up the street from our hostel. Also, at least once a month they show FREE MOVIES, so take advantage of their bar & food menu & plan on a night of good music right here in Lincoln Park.
Nestled just north of Wrigley Field on Clark St., The Metro showcases musical acts big & small/ far & wide. Coupled w/ the shops, restaurants, and bars that Wrigleyville offers, you can spend an entire day here, capping it off with some great live music.
Cheap music, Wicker Park, good food & drinks: The Subterranean. Admission usually lingers around $10, and there’s a ton of solid nightlife options in the hip neighborhood of Bucktown/Wicker Park. Check this place out just north of Damen Ave on North Ave.
We’ve recommended it before & we’re suggesting it again. One trip to The Green Mill Lounge and you’ll get a dose of Chicago history, memorable live jazz, & urban nightlife. This place has been open since the Prohibition Era and is seeped in historic atmosphere. The cover ranges from around $5 on weekdays & $12 on weekends, check this place out located on Broadway & Lawrence Ave.
