I’m 50; a professional, married woman with teenage kids, but I was travelling on my own, when I stayed in this hostel. I’m fit and friendly, so I did all the sorts of things that I used to do when I stayed in hostels as a younger traveller.
I took the bike tour with Ben to Montrose Beach, which was very warm, but very pleasant. I chatted to dozens of fellow hostellers and enjoyed hearing their stories and opinions. I was treated cordially by the front desk staff and at no stage did I feel that the $50 which my accomodation cost, was excessive, or that it was inappropriate for me to be staying with a much younger crowd. Everyone was very nice, at every turn. In fact, I got chatting to a young woman and her mom, who had shared a dorm room with me and we decided to make up a walking tour party to the Chicago History museum, with a detour through the free zoo on the way.
As a single traveller, it was lovely to have company on part of my journey.
If you are happy with the basics being clean, neat and tidy and are willing to be cordial and open to people of all races, languages and creeds, then you will have a fabulous stay in this hostel regardless of your own age, or cultural background. I highly recommend it!
