Amazing location!!! On a quiet tree-lined street that is just a 2 minute walk to Clark Street and the heart of Lincoln Park. Super professional and helpful staff, very clean, and has lots of amenities in the shared lobby and outdoor space. Different activities led by the staff nightly and bike rentals available.”
Best place for me to stay in Chicago. Close to my family. Close to the Lake, I love to run. Close to shopping, a favorite activity. Close to transportation. Very clean rooms and bathrooms. People very helpful and always pleasant. Excellent breakfast and lots of interesting international guests. Neighborhood is beautiful. Will be back!
The staff at the property are great. They are very helpful whenever you have a question. They also run great night social activities. The cooking area has great facilities as well as a lot of storge for food and drink. It is surrounded by heaps of bars and restaurants and is about a 5 minute walk to the closest train.
Hostels in the US are very hit or miss. The Chicago Getaway Hostel is definitely a hit! It is one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in.
Wonderful events lead by the nicest staff. Any question I had about Chicago was answered in a patient and thorough way. Next time I’m in Chicago, I’ll certain be back at the Chicago Getaway Hostel.
Great and modern hostel
Friendly staff and easy to live in. The free breakfast was a bonus, and a good feature, as was the advice the staff gave about trips. It has everything a hostel needs. The location was very good, located in a very nice area, only a few minutes walk to the park and the lake front, heading straight to downtown. The station was only a five minute walk also.
The common rooms are very nicely furnished and it’s a great atmosphere there. The staff was really nice and helpful. The easy internet access was great and they have a lovely breakfast.
I’m 50; a professional, married woman with teenage kids, but I was travelling on my own, when I stayed in this hostel. I’m fit and friendly, so I did all the sorts of things that I used to do when I stayed in hostels as a younger traveller.
I took the bike tour with Ben to Montrose Beach, which was very warm, but very pleasant. I chatted to dozens of fellow hostellers and enjoyed hearing their stories and opinions. I was treated cordially by the front desk staff and at no stage did I feel that the $50 which my accomodation cost, was excessive, or that it was inappropriate for me to be staying with a much younger crowd. Everyone was very nice, at every turn. In fact, I got chatting to a young woman and her mom, who had shared a dorm room with me and we decided to make up a walking tour party to the Chicago History museum, with a detour through the free zoo on the way.
As a single traveller, it was lovely to have company on part of my journey.
If you are happy with the basics being clean, neat and tidy and are willing to be cordial and open to people of all races, languages and creeds, then you will have a fabulous stay in this hostel regardless of your own age, or cultural background. I highly recommend it!
The staff was incredibly accommodating and a lot of fun when leading the various activities. The hostel itself is in a great location and it is easy to get to numerous places around the city. Passes for Skydeck or the John Hancock Building are available at the desk for a reduced price. The hostel is a very chill and relaxing place to hang out. I had a great time for my first visit to Chicago, in which I felt the hostel had a helping hand. I would definitely stay here again.
